Why Should You Use Essential Oils?

Essential oils nourish, heal, and protect plants very similar to how our blood works in the body. Plants cannot live without essential oils, and we cannot live without blood. God formed man from nature, and therefore our body receives nature as familiar. So, when we use essential oils, they work in tandem with our body systems to support healthy function. Our bodies were designed to heal itself and essential oils help to support the natural healing process.

Why Brand Matters... not all essential oils are created equal.

Choosing the right company from which to purchase your essential oils is critical. You want to know for sure that the oils are helping and not hurting you. You also want to know that they are effective in supporting your body and not just a pleasant smell. Here are some guidelines to follow. If the company does not meet these standards, then do not purchase from them. Young Living meets all of these standards. That is why I made the decision to become a brand partner with Young Living.

  • Make sure the company is legitimately in the business of essential oil distillation and farming, versus just buying their oils from other distilleries. The company should own their own farms in addition to any farms with which they may have a partnership.
  • Make sure the essential oils are not fractionally distilled. Many companies use this process to alter the smell of the oils. Although they are modified to smell better, their therapeutic value has been altered.
  • The company should manage the quality control of the seeds, growth of the plants, harvesting, distillation of the oils, and bottling.
  • Make sure that the essential oils are distilled from plants that are organically grown from actual seeds.


  • The plants should be hand-weeded, and no pesticides, herbicides or other chemicals should be used in the growth or distillation process.
  • You also want a company that distills their essential oils on-site at the location of the farm where the plants are harvested.  Essential oils have been known to lose some of their effectiveness when transported off-site to another location to be distilled.
  • In addition to in-house testing, it is important that the company does third-party testing from sources that have no known connection or relationship with the company.
  • Every batch must be tested. Oil quality can change from harvest to harvest, just by naturally occurring changes in the weather.
